History and Features
The Black World History Wax Museum, housed in a renovated former school, was opened in 1997 to highlight the history of African Americans in Missouri. The Museum's collection includes wax figures of famous people with ties to the region as well as historic documents, memorabilia and works of art. It also features a scale model section of a slave ship and an actual, reconstructed slave cabin. Beyond York, a living history interpretation of this African American explorer’s participation in the Lewis and Clark expedition, is a permanent exhibit that opened in Spring 2004.

In addition to the Museum's permanent collection, special traveling exhibits relating to the broader Black experience are also presented throughout the year.
